Summer Homework...

So for summer homework we had to do a two page text-to-text essay. Unfortunately, I did not get to doing it. So. Here it is.
Questions:
1.) What choices did the main characters in the books have to face?
2.) What was the consequence of one of those choices?
3.) Did they make the right choice? Why or why not?
4.) What would you have done? Why?

This summer I have read two wonderful books. The first, was The Battle of Jericho by Sharon M. Draper. The second book that I read was The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. It is my assignment to create a two paged text-to-text essay on the books. So. Let's get to it.
In The Battle of Jericho, Jericho and some of his friends get asked into the Warriors of Distinction, a recognized club in his community. However, in order to enter the Warriors of Distinction, they must do tasks to show their loyalty to the Warriors. As time goes on, the pledges (all asked into the Warriors of Distinction), begin to feel more and more uncomfortable with the tasks. However, the main choice that they made was to keep on going even if they felt this way.
In The Secret Life of Bees, Lily Owens is having a horrible time in the year 1964. Riddled with the guilt of accidentally killing her mother, and having absolutely no support from her father who is now abusive and unappreciative towards her for a reason Lily Owens decides to break free. Lily has all of the clues that she needs to find out about her mother. To find out the about her mother and her mothers past, and to find out what really happened. Her "stand in mother" Rosaleen, decides to go and vote. She stands up for her rights in front of the three major racists in her town, and gets herself in jail. Lili gets them both out of there, and Lili decides to go looking for the truth.
I think that Dana, a character from The Battle of Jericho, and Rosaleen, from The Secret Life of Bees, are quite alike. They both want to make a statement and change things, no matter what the cost. They both get hurt in their quests for change. The Warriors of Distinction is an all boys club. Dana wants to change it. Rosaleen is a black woman and wants to get her opinion out there. Dana gets branded and burned, and Rosaleen is beaten badly. They are both the brave ones of the book that gives the main character someone to look up to.
The main choices in The Battle of Jericho and The Secret Life of Bees both have severe consequences. In The Battle of Jericho, the pledges continue with their... Pledging activities, and as dangerous and stupid as it seems to them, they all do it. They all jump out of a second story window. Why? Even if they feel fear, they hear the voices of others calling them and telling them that it's okay. The peer pressure. When Jerichos cousin and best bud jumps out the window, he lands wrong and is killed. Another factor in this consequence was alcohol. But really it all boils down to peer pressure. Everyone was drinking, so he drank. Everyone was jumping and fine, and he jumped. They had to make a pledge that said that if one of them dropped out, they all would. So even if they felt that it was wrong, they didn't want to let anyone else down by telling.
In The Secret Life of Bees, Lily goes searching for the truth, and finds it. What it is breaks her heart. It proves my motto: Ignorance is bliss.
In both The Secret Life of Bees, and The Battle of Jericho, There is a lot of symbolism. In The Battle of Jericho, the symbolism is the essence of the Warriors, what they mean. In The Secret Life of Bees, the symbolism is the bees.
The Warriors in The Battle of Jericho represented the crowd and peer pressure. As little as they like what they were doing, they still wanted to be part of the crowd, no matter what the cost *(Even leading their old friends ((This time in the form of death)).). Everyone strives for acceptance and popularity, even in their subconscious. To be on top is the best. It's even what animals strive for in the animal world.
In The Secret Life of Bees The symbolism comes in the form of bees. When Lily and Rosaleen get to the house where the three beekeeping sisters, May, June and August live. The three sisters own a honey company that they run themselves. Everyone in the bee gang has had a lot of sadness. Lily lost her mother and hates her father. May can't differentiate her pain from other peoples. June was hurt in a marriage before her, and is having trouble with a relationship that she's in presently in the book, and August lost a dear friend of hers... The three sisters do everything with honey. They say that it help sickness, and they put it on their wounds. The put it on almost everything that they eat, and they slather it on something that means quite a lot to them, and that had hardship in its life, the Black Madonna. You may think that I'm never going to get to the point but lo and behold! Here it is! I believe that the bees and their honey represent hope. The sisters use hope to heal their wounds and help them when times are rough within them. If anything enters their bodies and souls, hope surrounds it first, so they can have a positive outlook.
So, what is right and wrong? I know the answer that whoever is getting this expects. "In
The Battle of Jericho, Jericho made the wrong choice because people were getting hurt and treated badly and he did nothing". And yes, that is my answer. He should have told someone, but you must admit, it was a hard decision to make. Jericho did not want to let anyone down, and he even asked others if they wanted his help, and they said no. And yes, he could have done it anonymously, but there were other things going on. Jericho wanted to win the respect of his peers and older people in the community who had supposedly done the same things as them.
I think that Lily from The Secret Life of Bees made the right decision. Anyone would go searching for the truth. Also, under her circumstances, who wouldn't have wanted to break away? I think that Lily did the right thing to go searching for the truth. By doing so, she also found where she was home.
If I was Jericho in The Battle of Jericho, I would like to think that I would make the right decision and call the police anonymously, but I think that I would have been too afraid. I also have a habit for letting anger wash out over time. If I was Lily in The Secret Life of Bees, I think that I would have done more or less the same thing that she did. I probably would have stolen a bit of money from Ray though. I really don't think that what she had was enough. Maybe before I had left I would have defaced some of his property...
I believe that I have answered the questions asked. I put all that I could into this. I'm sorry if it wasn't Text-to-texty enough. I really wished that we had been given an example. I hope that is is satisfactory.

The double (('s mean that it's a thought withing a thought. What happened at the end of it )).). means: End of thought within a thought, end of sentence in thought, end of thought, end of sentence.

The Life of Anya: Chapter One: The Grocery Store

Anya looked out the window outside on the lawn Aire was flirting with a new boy, which wasn't much of a surprise considering it was Aire. Anya could hear Racon and Nomi practicing together. She screwed up her eyes and thought as loud as she could
'Dad! Dad I want to talk to you!' an voice answered in her mind,
'Yes? What is it Anya?
'Dad where is the money I forgot again. And I want to get my self groceries!''
'It's under the third floor board under the bed, Don't use to much or it will be gone to soon for my powers to reach it.'
'I won't!' She scrambled off the window seat in her room and crawled under the bed she carefully counted the money making sure to only get ten dollars. Then she ran down the stairs making sure to tread on the parts where she knew it wouldn't creak. She then creeped out the door trying not to be noticed by Aire who was now making out with her new boyfriend. Once out of the grounds she ran up the street to the bus station and climbed onto the bus showing her fake pass. Even though Thom, the bus driver, knew the pass was fake he had a soft spot for Anya and let her on anyways. She got off a block from the Grocery store and got an ice cream from the little creamery on the way. At the grocery store She followed her general routine, First the Bread, next the milk and cheese, then the turkey meat and some ham, and finally a bag of mints. At the register Anya gave the money to Georgson, the register man, even though the money wasn't enough he still let her buy the food slipping her a candy pop. She saved the pop and sucked on a mint. As she got near the house she started doing the mind trick to make her sisters and brother not see. It was hard and she could only do it for a couple of minutes so she always saved it for when she was coming back with things. She slipped back into her room and hid the groceries in the secret compartment she had made in her walk in closet.
As Anya walked out she noticed something a little box on her bed. She realized it was barking and moxing across the bed. Ayna rolled her eyes once again her sisters had dropped another pet onto her responsibilities.
